Remember last week when we said Lethal Weapon 5 Might Happen But Will Almost Definitely Suck#links, well now it is less likely to happen and even if it does, it will 100%, without doubt, suck donkey balls. Why? Because Mel Gibson has said no. The anchor star is out of the game. That's like Harrison Ford not being in Indiana Jones (something Lucas is apparently considering but that guy just doesn't know where the bottom of the barrel is). Producer/director Richard Donner has also opted out from the beginning so despite Shane Black's involvement, this idea is starting to feel like a low rent straight to DVD B-movie. Let it go people.
In other sequel news, there had been talk of a Wall Street sequel for quite a while now but with recent developments in the news (you may have heard something about a credit crunch), there seems a genuine artistic reason to revisit Gordon Gekko's world. With that in mind, those stalwarts of artistic integrity, Fox have commissioned screenwriter Allan Loeb to start work on a page one rewrite of the existing script for Money Never Sleeps presumably fashioning it for a post economic meltdown milieu where Greed Is Bad.
Michael Douglas has yet to make a decision about whether he would play Gekko. Apparently he is waiting to read Loeb’s finished draft. There’s also no word on whether Oliver Stone will return, but it would be a perfect follow up to W perhaps forming a second part in a trilogy charting the legacy of the Bush years. Next up according to some reports, will be his exposé on the economic fallout caused by the crash in the market for anti-bush merchandise after he leaves office.
