Friends Movie?

Get ready for the flood folks. How predictable was this one. After the success of SATC (don't pretend you don't know what the acronym stands for) there was a certain inevitability and logic to the news that an Entourage movie was being planned, essentially because it's the male Sex and the City. As we know, in Hollywood, people follow the money and so now, every defunct hit TV show is jumping on the bandwagon. Friends is the latest. There had always been talk of a movie but apparently, Jennifer Aniston was the barrier to it going ahead. Her fame and 'success' - not based on many hit movies but rather from her disastrous love life - meant that she was reluctant to come back and seem desperate to rekindle past glories. After SATC, the movie would be expected to be a giganto-hit that would break all box office records known to man and so doing it might not seem like such an act of desperation. With that in mind, that bastion of truth, The Daily Mail is reporting that Aniston's people are saying she's interested...or some bullshit based on unreliable 'sources'.

All of this puts a dampener on a a TV adaptation that had been talked about years before the SATC bandwagon rolled into town. Ah yes, our dead hobby horse is back to be flogged. The Arrested Development movie seems a little closer to happening after ............ reported that family patriarch, Jeffrey Tambor seems to think the movie is a go project even though it hasn't been greenlit and there is still no script in place. He said

After months of speculation, I think we have finally figured out for sure that we are indeed doing an Arrested Development movie. I am very excited about that. I love that cast and crew and I felt like we had more to say

I'm sure by the time it happens it will be the 110th TV adaptation and will be dismissed as a cynical cash-in designed to capitalise on the success of the Different Strokes Movie.
