Here is the list of the Top 20 most bankable actors in Hollywood today, based on a survey of producers and executives asking which actors can most easily attract financing.
As we all know, Will Smith (yeah, that guy above) could film himself getting dental surgery and gross a 100 million so no surprises there. Brangelina are the most bankable couple. Clint and Jack and Bob are still hanging in there, which is quite an achievement. Only three women are on the list, which is quite an achievement for the forces of patriarchy and sexism. 16 out of the top 20 have been nominated for academy awards in the acting categories, suggesting that there is real merit in the shameless campaigning that happens at Oscar time. If it's gonna give that sort of boost, it's worth it.
Of course none of these people guarantee that a movie will make money but it they will almost certainly guarantee that you will get your movie made. So in a way they're a bit like my Dad when I got him to hold the camera when I made my first short film, Adventures Of Superboy . Jesus, that bombed at the box office.
