BAFTA Winners
Here are the main winners of the BAFTA's, which took place in London last night. Slumdog Millionaire cleaned up wherever it was in the running and only The Curious Case of Benjamin Button came close to its total of seven awards. Most of the latter's awards came in technical categories. It was all a bit predictable, with the British academy plumping for Slumdog over its American rivals and Kate Winslet for Best Actress. In that category the momentum seems to have completely fallen away from Angelina Jolie and is firmly behind Winslet but there could be surprises on Oscar night. Mickey Rourke seems to have the edge on Sean Penn after this win and it was good to see Martin McDonagh picking up an award although it was actually Brendan Gleeson who collected it. McDonagh might not be so lucky across the pond. It may have been another case of the British academy rewarding local talent.
