Expect the tradition of releasing a raft of terrible Christmas movies (usually starring Vince Vaughan) every year to continue as Four Christmases won the Thanksgiving Box Office bout KO'ing Twilight a movie that doesn't have the legs that many thought it did.
Four Christmases pulled in $31.6 million over the weekend or $46.7 million over the whole 5-day holiday period if you want to read it like that. Either way you look at it, they are some impressive numbers for a Christmas comedy that isn't really aimed at kids.
Last week's number 1, Twilight was actually the only movie in the top 10 to drop from last week’s total, with most movies receiving a holiday boost. Still, it pulled in another $39 million over, for a 10-day total of $119.6 million, which is pretty darn good, but it looks like it won't reach the $200 million that some predicted after its huge opening last weekend.
Speaking of huge openings, expect to see one advertised for the head of Fox Studios after Baz Luhrman's $130 million epic Australia opened in 5th place with only $20 on a holiday weekend. it may make up the difference internationally (we hear it could be quite popular in Australia) but the outlook isn't good.
Question: We like Vince Vaughan and he'll never have to apologise for anything after Swingers, but when you look at the poster above, why does it look like he ate himself.
