75 Comics Being Made Into Films

Above is a image from The Boys, a comic book which is currently being adapted for the big screen like a million other graphic novels(if you look closely you'll see that Simon Pegg was the inspiration for one of the characters.) Well it’s not the worst thing in the world, as the good people over ‘Den of Geek’ who compiled this list state ‘Comics are becoming the new spec-script.’ And we really have to thank them for making such a comprehensive list.

We’ve had some fine comic book films adaptations Road to Perdition, A History of Violence, 300 and (please God) Watchmen will be one too.

But where this comic book to big screen evolution of filmmaking becomes precarious is when studios option a story based on one issue, as happened with Wanted. Of course the rest of the run of that story in comic book form might be terrible and the hired screenwriter might do an incredible job of creating his own story based on that ‘pitch’ issue but shouldn’t the studios give a comic it’s own time to build it’s own story?

We dare you to watch Wanted and then read the comic. It’s incredible to see how the screenwriter and comic book writer (who were writing their own versions at the same time) went in totally different directions yet, coincidentally, shared certain plot twists– the comic book is better by the way.

Click here for that great list of soon to be made comic book adaptations.
