On the back of talk of a Top Gun sequel, Hollywood is planning to cash in on another of the eighties, truly cheesy, but truly excellent films with the announcement that Patrick Swayze has been approached to reprise his role as Johnny Castle in a sequel to Dirty Dancing.
Despite commercial success with films such as Dirty Dancing, Ghost and Point Break, Swayze has spent the last decade and half unable to recreate earlier success. Has anyone seen Swayze in a film, excluding his excellent turn in Donnie Darko, in the last decade?
It’s a sad indictment of Hollywood, that they are trying to cash in on the media attention Swayze has received as a result of his battle with pancreatic cancer. Hopefully a healthy Swayze wont try to recapture his past glory with an unnecessary sequel and will hold out for something better. Or if he does decide a sequel is the way to go at least let it be Point Break 2. That way Keanu could get his career back on track as well.
