Remake News

Is it just us or is every piece of movie news today about bloody remakes. It seems like those moguls in Hollywood have just stopped reading original scripts and are simply wading through their DVD collection and picking out random titles for remakes.

In no particular order, today sees breaking news of the following remakes that may or may not come to fruition:

Arthur is to be remade with Russell Brand in the Dudley Moore role. We'll believe it when we see it. Russell Brand is no upper class playboy.

Romancing The Stone is to be remade by Fox and is being written by Daniel McDermott, the writer of Eagle Eye. It seems somebody might be trying to jump on the post-Indy bandwagon that brought us classics such as Sahara and Fools Gold...Oh wait.

John Carpenter's They Live will be remade by Universal...Who cares. Another forgettable horror remake ahoy!

Not strictly a remake but David Fincher is apparently lining up a movie called Ness about Eliot Ness and the Untouchables that could be considered a remake of sorts. It could/would/will (delete according to your optimism) star Matt Damon as Ness and Casey Affleck and Rachel McAdams thus justifying our pic above. Fincher is developing a busy slate so we won't be holding our breath.

Remakes are lame, no lie, but They Live is a modern classic and features one of the best fistfights ever. Plus Rowdy Roddy Piper shooting civilians while wearing magic sunglasses. Awesomo.
