‘All that comes out of Hollywood are sequels and re-makes.’ It’s something that you hear someone say at least once a week and it does become tiring since there a number (single digit) of fine films produced from ‘Hollywood’ and the feelings of this Movie Watchman is that this has always been the case and always will be.
But the announcement of a proposed remake of ‘The Crow’, to be directed Stephen Norrington (Blade, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), broke the camel’s back. Yes, everyone is right, Hollywood Studios have become over reliant on remakes and sequels/prequels. This trend only champions a studio system mentality of repetition and unoriginality. We fear how this exponentially growing trend will affect the future of original big budget feature films and we reminisce of the decade of the 80’s where quality, original big budget films were made and still enjoyed today.
Good old Den of Geek has compiled a list of 55 Remakes that are currently in development. Click here and be horrified.
