Jack Black is Gulliver

Jonathan Swift would be spinning in his grave today if he hadn't turned to dust and disintegrated into the soil by now. Jack Black is set star in an 'updating' of his classic, Gulliver's Travels. Black will play Lemuel Gulliver, an intrepid travel writer on an assignment to the Bermuda Triangle who is washed up on the island of Lilliput, where all the inhabitants are very tiny and hi jinks and misunderstandings ensue...we presume.

Rob Letterman (of Shark Tale fame/infamy) is to direct a script from Nicholas Stoller and Shrek writer Joe Stillman. Judging by the talent involved, this will probably be a mix of live action and CG animation. Expect allegory and satire to be checked at the door and broad physical humour to be given a access all areas pass. We'll always watch Jack Black when he's given free reign to go crazy but it doesn't sound like it's going to be in the spirit of the book so don't sell it to us as Gulliver's Travels. That said, the book has been adapted several times so maybe it's no harm to do something different this time around.

The film will be set in modern times so other than the concept it will bare little resemblance. Don't be surprised if they don't even use the title (which would be fine by us).
