Video Trailer Days

Remember them days when you would come home from the video library with a couple of rentals tucked under your arm? Excited, you would arrange your Marathon bars next to your Opel Fruits and Soda Stream bottle. You’d stick the tape in and clunk down the deck, press play and watch the fuss. Then spend the next five minutes cursing the previous renter as you ‘played with the tracking’. But what about those trailers which kept popping up in various titles that you just kept renting? We want to share a couple of our 80’s favourites. They really don’t make them like they used to and here are a few that make us a bit misty eyed for Video Libraries and bad old VHS tapes.

The Neverending Story. The music is great and the trailer instilled a true sense of escapist fantasy. But what a lie! The bloody film was only about 90 minutes long. Neverending my arse.

Alien. Could this be one of the greatest trailers ever made? This trailer begins soft and quite and just builds to an exhausting terrifying climax. The footage of the egg cracking was shot exclusively for the trailer and displays a sense of restraint and art that is almost completely devoid from all main stream trailers these days. There is no plot, there is no dialogue, there is just fear. LEARN FROM THIS!
