A great film and an even better achievement for pushing the envelope so much in an often unambitious genre. Not the masterpiece some have made it out to be. It has its flaws but so do many great films.
The hype is a bit annoying all the same. I read today that it is now rated as the best movie of all time on IMDB with fans going on and rating it 10 out of 10 and putting in 1/10 ratings for The Godfather to push it down the list.
Also, read that critics who reviewed it poorly are getting hate mail.Ridiculous stuff. It's good but it's not so good that it negates people's right to an opinion.

Only time will really tell if 'The Dark Knight' is as great as everyone is telling us. I've seen it twice and there is no question that it is an achievement for the genre and there are geniune moments of cinematic greatness but, to be fair, it is a bit plot heavy. Is that a gripe? I'm not sure, I'll truely know in a few years when the dust has long settled and the senses are clear. Great performances though. One of the best blockbusters I've ever seen. Not Best Film! I remember loving Titance when I first saw it (not joking, really embarrassed about this) I was swept away by all the special effects and an undying love for James Cameron but it actually hurts to watch that film now. But we have lived with half arsed, un-inteligent, boomfests for almost 15 years now. All I can say is thank you The Nolan Brothers for for giving the 'big summer event movie' it's dignity back.

The biggest problem with 'The Dark Knight' is old Maggie. I know this will get allot of people upset but I prefer Katie Holmes. Why? Well, the role of Rachel Dawes is fairly thankless, it's really a place for eye candy. So, I'm sorry, Katie is way hotter than Maggie!

I agree with one of the anonymous guys (Dude's post some sort of name in the Name/URL below 0 you don't even have to sign in!). Katie Holmes is well hotter and it's not just about eye candy. You have to believe Harvey Dent would go ga ga over her and you have to believe that Bruce Wayne - who could have any woman - would pine after her.

Also, I liked Titanic when it came out first as well. Let's start a support group to live with our shame.

Being a recent convert to Frank Miller's 'The Dark Knight Returns' it's clear to see how the Nolans and Goyer were inspired by the comic. I would love if they had the balls to close of the trilogy by telling a 'Batman Ends' story. I know the bean counters at Warners would vomit at the idea but this approach could side step the diffciult third superheroe movie curse. Although, X-Men 3: The Last Stand tried to close that story as did Blade Trinity and they were but shit. So I'm negating my own point here; but if they had the courage to follow the bread crumps left by Miller, Nolan could put a cap on the greatest cinematic superhero storyline to date.

The Dark Knight returns is ace alright but would a loose adaptation of it require recasting of an older Batman? If it did, the studios would laugh it out of the pitch meeting. It would definitely be nice to see a rounded trilogy.
Speaking of recasting, I hear people talking about recasting the Joker! No! Any immitation of Heath Ledger's performance would be insulting and any reinterpretation would be hated by everyone. On a hiding to nothing.

Really liked this film but hated the design of Two Face. Liked the character of Harvery Dent but there's just no way anybody (in a fairly realistic milieu) could walk around (without taking painkillers) with half their face hanging off. Think it would have been better if they had just gone for realism and made him look like a really bad burn victim, with ugly skin grafts on one side of his face.

wow, rating the godfather 1/10 to push it down the list, thats absurd. The Dark Knight was a good action flick, Ledger really pulled off the joker in an incomparable way to Nicholson, of course they were different style jokers anyway. As for Christian Bale, I mean WTF, who thinks his batman voice is ridiculous? I sure as hell do. A lot of good performances in the movie, it was well shot, a good story even, but it was just missing something. I left the cinema rating it at 7/10 and I feel I am being kind because I wouldn't watch it again. Michael Keaton still the best batman for me...although not much competition with the likes of clooney and kilmer. I did really like the fact that in the dark knight the villain was the villain and not some stupid jokey villain like in previous batmans or previous supermans...ok i am off to imdb to rate dark knight 1/10 and the godfather 10/10.
