Box Office News - A Bumper Weekend

Kung Fu Panda ruled the box office this weekend but the big news is just how much money the top 5 made. Kung Fu took in over $60 million but the Adam Sandler vehicle You Don't Mess With The Zohan (produced by current comedy King, Judd Apatow) took in a fat-ass $40 million which in second place. Numbers not to be sniffed at. We'll never understand how Sandler keeps doing it at the box office. His schtick got old and tired the day the director yelled 'that's a wrap' on Happy Gilmore. Then again , this is the same public that sent Meet The Spartans to number one.

Indiana Jones and Sex and The City also held up extremely well both taking in over $20 million and The Strangers continued to do good numbers for a standard. horror. Though the boys seem to have beaten the girls here with Indy clinching third place.

Here are the official estimates (which could change)
1. Kung Fu Panda, $60.95M
2. Zohan, $40.05M
3. Indiana Jones, $22.83M
4. Sex and the City, $21.07M
5. The Strangers, $8.78M

As an aside: We just saw the trailer for The Strangers the other day and it explains the good box office. Scary stuff (it seems so simple to create a scary trailer, we wonder why the other 100 horrors released this year didn't bother). Stay tuned. We'll post it soon.
