AFI's Top 10 Movies In Each Of The Top 10 Genres
So those kind folks over at The American Film Institute have decided to just be done with it and do a Top 10 of every genre - or at least every major genre.
Go here to check out their lists, which include footage of interviews with luminaries (whatever the fuck that means) on why they think everything is so great. There a re of course, a couple of ridiculous decisions - not least calling A Clockwork Orange a sci-fi movie just because it's set in the future or lumping war movies into Epics
Generally the AFI are good for compiling lists that don't have the memory of a goldfish so they remember the oldies and make the more recent films stand the test of time before they creep towards the Top 10. That said, their choices can be a bit stuffy and predictable and unfortunately they only include American movies. So no original Solaris in Sci-fi, no Seven Samuraiin Epic and no original Godzilla in fantasy (King Kong is in that category for all you who say it's not fantasy. Last time I checked, giant lizards didn't exist...except in my pants. Badum Tish!)
Also in the irony of ironies, there is no place for Citizen Kane in any of the top 10's in any genre even though it topped the AFI list of Top 100 Movies of All Time. Would it have killed them to have a category for biopic or melodrama?
