Useless Film Trivia: The Wilhelm Scream
Nothing incredible has happened in the world of Film today, so we decided to broaden your horizons of useless film trivia. Just look at the video complation and say to yourself 'AH! I know that scream.'
Although it is thought that the first use of the sound effect was in 'Distant Drums', the credit of the sound effect begin embedded into our subconscious has to go to Ben Burtt, the brilliant soud effects artist behind 'Star Wars'. Burtt tracked down the original recording and has used it in every film which he has worked on.
Burtt named it after "Pvt. Wilhelm", a minor character who emitted the same scream in the 1953 film 'The Charge at Feather River'.
