We now feel justified in bringing you the box office news a day late because news just broke today that Speed Racer was an even bigger bomb than first thought.
Here are the facts:
1) It opened at number 2 with an estimated 20.2 million getting its ass kicked badly by Iron Man, which is still holding up nicely and turning out to be a huge success.
2) It only just beat What Happens In Vegas (that one with the incredibly annoying casting billing of Cameron V Ashton! Aaaahhh!!!). So it was damn close to opening at number 3.
3) Today news has broken that the estimations were exaggerated and it only grossed 18.6 million
Here is the speculation:
1) That the estimates were deliberately exaggerated by Warner Bros. to claim 2nd place from Cameron V Ashton.
2) That Emile Hirsch has fired his agent
3) That The Wachowski Brothers have gone into hiding
4) That we wish Neo had taken the other pill in the first Matrix movie so we wouldn't have been subjected to their self-indulgence ever since that first movie (which is still a classic).

The Wachowski bros certainly put a lot of effort into making Speed Racer... the movie overall looked and felt like a cross between anime, a kaleidoscope, that Flintstones movie, a video game and the Dukes of Hazard
