Bush Biographers Bash Bush-Bashing Biopic
The story of Oliver Stones controversial biopic of George W. Bush has been knocking about for a few weeks now. We've been waiting for a good reason to post it. This probably isn't it but the headline was too tempting.
Some of George W's biographers were shown a draft of the script and have labelled the script as 'excessive'. In the scale of predictable comments this one ranks pretty close with Arsene Wenger claiming he didn't see an incident, or George W. himself claiming that the Iraq War is going well. These biographers have a vested interest in Bush and would obviously portray their books as the definitive account of Bush's life and lifestyle. And of course, as everyone seems to be noting, Oliver Stone and excess tradionally go hand in hand.
That said, we think he could surprise people with this one. Apparently the Hollywood Reporter sent out the draft of the script that the biographers read and it was a draft from last October. It stinks of drumming up a story. Also, bashing Bush excessively would be too obvious and easy. We heard these same debates when Stone decided to take on 9/11 and his World Trade Centre flick turned out to be a sentimental flag waver. With the success of the Queen, historical biopics that aren't so historical seem all the rage.
The casting is also spot on (despite some strange age discrepancies)
Josh Brolin - George W. Bush
Ellen Burstyn - Barbara Bush
Elizabeth Banks - Laura Bush
James Cromwell - George Bush Snr.
Thandie Newton - Condoleeza Rice
Ioan Gruffudd - Tony Blair
