This Generation's Ghostbusters?
There has been much discussion amongst The Watchmen (okay one conversation but that counts) about whether the Frat Pack (Stiller,Wilson, Black, Ferrell et al) would ever turn their talents towards a big-budget movie in a different genre that would synergise their talents and strike box office gold. Just like Ghostbusters did in the 80's. Tropic of Thunder looks like it could be it. And here's the teaser trailer. It looks pretty sweet. Just as Akroyd wrote Ghostbusters, Stiller directs this. For a better quality version click the headline above.
Here's the catch though. With Owen Wilson pulling out because of that whole 'episode' (we saw Kate Hudson's ass in the newspaper last week, I understand now) it feels less Frat-packy now. And the real catch is, it's not actually a war movie. It's a movie about a group of actors shooting a war movie. So while the setting is a departure, the genre probably won't be. Full on comedy it is then. Not that there's anything wrong with that!
